Slum Community Immersion Internship
Internship Overview
This societal internship immerses students in urban slum communities to gain firsthand understanding of poverty, sanitation, housing, and education challenges. By spending time with families, observing living conditions, and listening to personal stories, students develop empathy and awareness of systemic issues. The program emphasizes active engagement, encouraging students to document problems and brainstorm solutions alongside residents. Through guided reflection, students learn how social, economic, and policy factors intersect in marginalized communities. The experience fosters critical thinking, compassion, and a sense of responsibility toward creating sustainable interventions that can improve the quality of life for slum dwellers
