Digital Bridge: - Civic Tech for Seniors
Internship Overview

Many civic services (pension portals, utility payments, health bookings) have moved online, leaving many senior citizens in the community behind. In this internship, students act as "Digital Mentors." They will set up a local help-desk or conduct door-to-door visits to help residents navigate government apps and digital civic portals. This task is "easy" for tech-savvy students but highly impactful for the community. It bridges the generational gap and ensures that the most vulnerable members of society can access the civic services they are entitled to without stress.

Internship Objective
  • To improve the digital accessibility of essential civic services for the elderly.
  • To develop the communication and "soft skills" of engineering students.
  • To provide real-world feedback to civic authorities on digital platform usability.
Brief Description
  • Module 1: Civic Portal Navigation: Mastering local government apps (e.g., Digital India initiatives).
  • Module 2: Cybersecurity Basics: Learning how to teach safe digital practices to non-experts.
  • Module 3: Empathy-Based Teaching: Techniques for tutoring elderly or non-technical users.
  • Module 4: Issue Documentation: Cataloging common UI/UX hurdles faced by citizens.

Internship Outcome

A Digital Inclusion Logbook documenting the successful assistance provided to citizens and a summary report on common user-experience barriers found in civic software.
